How do you pick a tablet for all of this work? That was our first question as well so I guess we should start there.
Shopping list for your next Huion tablet
We know that when you start looking around for a graphics tablet, there can be a lot of bells and whistles that can catch your attention (believe us, we’ve been there). However, all those shiny features don’t make the tablet the right one for you. Here’s a quick rundown of what you should be paying attention to:
Resolution
Choosing the right resolution is one of the most important aspects of any graphics tablet is the resolution. The higher the resolution, the better the image will look and the finer the details you can use when drawing. Now, does this mean you need the best resolution out there? Let me ask you: how deep are your pockets? Higher resolutions can come with higher prices. So, if you’re on a budget, spending that kind of money will depend on the type of work you’re doing.
Pressure Sensitivity
Depending on the amount of pressure that you apply when using the styles, the depth of your stroke can vary. Much like resolution, the pressure sensitivity can vary from tablet to table and some budget-friendly options don’t have pressure sensitivity at all. Pressure sensitivity is important because it can affect the quality you can achieve with your designs. In much the same way as resolution, you want to find a pressure sensitivity that works with the kind of designs you’re doing and fits your budget.
Tracking Speed
Measured in Points per Secord, tracking speed is better the higher the number is (sensing a theme here?). This means that the delay time or lag that occurs between the time you make a stroke and it appears on the computer is much less.
Physical Size
Depending on the type of work you’re doing and where you plan on working, the size of the tablet you choose may not always be bigger is better. Larger sizes means larger costs and bigger isn’t always better. If you are working in an office, a larger tablet may make sense but if you prefer to work outside or at a coffee shop, a smaller tablet may be the way to go.
Connectivity
Being able to connect your tablet to your computer can be essential, especially if you choose a tablet that you need your monitor to see your work. If your computer is a little older, you will likely only have USB 2 as an option. Many current-generation tablets won’t have or even require USB 3 but you can easily plug a USB 3 into a USB 2 port. Some graphic tablets can connect via Bluetooth as the technology continues to advance.
Cost
At the end of the day, even if the tablet you found checks all of your boxes and is “the one” if the price isn’t right, you might just have to walk away. Cost is a major consideration and finding the best tablet that does everything you need without blowing a hole in your budget is the best way to go, even if you have to leave “the one” behind.
